Money Saver: Tip Day!

Hey everyone! Today I felt like giving out some tips I have found from my own experience, friends, and the web that will make life SOO much easier and save you some money (what is better than that?!?). I have lots so I think I will have Tip Wednesdays for a while so I don't overload you guys and I can spread them out!
I am a true believer in not procrastinating, saving money and not wasting anything that I can find a use for again. That being said I have had a project the last few weeks with an end date of several months from now of repainting my walls. I live on an military base and our tour is done here this upcoming Spring. When we came here years ago I didn't want to see white walls everywhere for 4 years so I painted 6 accent walls on the main floor. Our master and guest room has wall decals to break up the white- I HIGHLY recommend to anyone who likes to switch up things from time to time or for kids rooms since their tastes change often! There are soo many websites online that sell almost every design imaginable.
Why start so far out? Well, life can get crazy, right?!? At first, it seems you may have all the time in the world to do whatever you want in regards to painting your walls and you may have all intentions to paint several coats throughout the house every day and then BANG, life catches up to you and you can't get a second to yourself. This tip that I am about to unveil is simple and easy to do.  Plus, for us financially this is better on the budget. I can get the primer, paint several coats on the walls, then go back and buy the needed top coat color and paint the walls only one or two more layers. Less stress and I can spread the purchases out.
But, what do you do with the rollers in between coats?? Do you just pull it off the roller and toss it since it will have dried up before you go back an hour or two later (if you paint again that day)? If you said yes, slap your wrist, shame on you! NO!!
Scrape off as much paint as you can back into the paint can. Then get the cling wrap!
Roll it in a good amount of cling wrap (from here you can remove it from the roller if you want if you need it for another project). And put it in the freezer. Yes, in the freezer!
And there you have it! Your roller will be waiting for you when you are ready to put another layer of paint on again. Just make sure that you give it approximately 30 mins to thaw back out before you use it. I swear by this and do it every time I have a painting project. The brushes I just rinse off thoroughly and set to dry. I use them over and over. For the paint pan, line it with aluminum foil before use and after you are done painting put the leftover paint back in the can, remove the foil and throw it away! No need to buy pan liners ever again. :)

One more tip for the day for everyone!
Lots of us have one of these, right?! They are convenient and very user friendly. Don't get me wrong I also have a mop and a floor steam cleaner but I don't always have the time or feel that the whole floor needs a cleaning so I use this for spots! What do you do when you are done with the bottle? Throw it away and buy another ~$4.00 one? Not anymore!!!
To get the cap off with ease all you need is a pot of boiling water and a few minutes of your time. Once you get the water to a boil place your empty bottle top down into the water for one minute.
Remove the bottle and with a pot holder, silicone can opener, towel, something to protect your hand from the heat.... twist that cap off! Awesome, huh? Refill with any floor cleaner you want! There are several options for homemade cleaners online.  One example is 1 1/2 cups of Vinegar and 1 1/2 cups of hot water.
Oh! Don't want to keep buying pads for it either? Go out and buy some microfiber washcloths (cut to size of swiffer: usually just in half). Place frayblock, fraycheck, or the like (a crafting glue to stop fraying so no need to sew) to the cut edge and allow to dry. 'Smush' the cloth onto the mop and you are good to go!

Hope these tips are useful for you and you will look forward to Tip Wednesdays! Happy Hump Day!
