Shocking Crystals
Hi everyone, I was feeling like I needed some sparkle for my first polish shoot. Eventually I will set up a photo box for my pictures but until then I will try my best to get the lighting and coloring as close to real life. I took over 10 pictures of my fingers to get the best ones! This manicure took several layers to get the end result but the great thing is how quickly it dried! I started with Avon's Nail Experts Mineral Strength to get help my nails adapt to the changing polishes every so many days. I have quite thick healthy nails to begin with but I do feel that they are stronger and it helps to keep them white through all the color changes! I will post a picture of my natural nail color in another blog to show you all what I am working with.
After the base coat I used one coat of Avon's Matte in Grey Cement. The amazing thing about the matte line Avon has is that is dries almost instantly and goes on thick! I like to put on top coats to finish off my nails however, with the matte you loose the effect since they become shiny so unless I am just going for color and not finish, no top coat allowed. In the case of wanting the matte and making sure it sticks I use Avon's Nail Experts Adhesive Base Coat but for this treatment it wasn't needed.
The last layer I put on my nails was L'Oreal Bijou Crystals in Shocking Crystals. I put two layers on the nails to get the polish even. I find most glitter polishes dry quite quick and this one is no exception. It wasn't as quick as the matte but within just a matter of minutes my nails were good to go! They are also great at making the polish stick and are nearly impossible to chip. Some are a pain to get off but this one was no problem to remove.
I added a stencil to my thumb from the Kiss Nail Artist Paint and Stencil Kit the day after I did my nails because with only the grey I felt they were missing something and add a little more silver to the base of my nails.
I hope you like it! What do you think about the last minute touches: great addition or too much?
